Planning permission was granted on 15th April 2025 for a major extension to Wokingham Theatre, located in Cantley Park off Twyford Road, Berkshire.
The approved works include a two-storey studio extension, link to an existing storage barn (now to be retained permanently), and seven additional on-site parking spaces with a new access point.
Although in the countryside, the site lies within the North Wokingham Strategic Development Location and is a key local recreational facility. The theatre, established in 1947, is a long-standing cultural asset promoting community engagement with the arts.
The Case Officer found the design to be sympathetic to the existing building, avoids harm to trees or biodiversity, and ensures no adverse impact on neighbours or traffic. The expansion will support additional rehearsal and storage space while maintaining theatre operations throughout construction.
This project will enhance Wokingham Theatre’s role as a valuable, sustainable community facility.
